One doc holds several tabs, which is how you keep the detail out of the part people read.
A main plan tab plus a Sources or Working notes tab keeps the heavy material somewhere it can be found without being in the way.
You do not create tabs through a menu ritual. Ask Claude to add a tab, or to move a section into its own tab, and it does it. The Tabs control in the toolbar is there for when you want to move between them yourself.
It persists, and it is private
- A doc outlives the conversation that made it. Reopen it later, keep editing, or hand it to someone else
- Private by default, like any other artifact, until you choose to share
- The doc alone lives at a claude.ai/artifact URL. The split view with the session has a longer cowork URL. Share the one you mean
Your doc will end up with two names
The doc keeps the title you typed. The browser tab and the session rename themselves to something adjacent but different, chosen by Claude rather than by you. Nothing breaks, but when you go looking for a doc later you may be searching for a name you never wrote.
